Day Trip To Peak's Island || Maine

In August, I road-tripped to Maine with my best friend for a long weekend of fun in of my favorite states! We spent our days hiking by the coast, seeing lighthouses, and exploring small islands. On Sunday, we went to Casco Bay Ferry Terminal and bought tickets to Peak's Island for a day of fun. Peak's is a small island that's about a twenty-minute ferry ride from Portland. It's a beautiful little gem and we loved our visit!

I'm not sure there's anything I love more than a ferry ride in the morning, - so beautiful and quiet! We took a ferry over at around 9am, so the island was still waking up when we got there.
We walked a few blocks from the ferry terminal to Brad's Bike Rental. We rented bikes for a couple hours and had a blast pedaling around the island.  It was $20 to rent from for three hours, which was plenty of time to bike the island with lots of stops of exploring.
I'd be pretty happy to retire to this cottage..

The main modes of transportation on the island are bikes and golf carts (with a few cars), so we felt safe biking on the roads.

I took far too many photos of houses.. but they were all so unique and beautiful!

We rode the perimeter of the island (a little over four miles) with numerous stops for taking in scenic views, rock skipping, wave watching, and picture taking.

We took "the Scenic Route" !

We finished up our beautiful day with some ice cream before hopping back on the ferry to Portland. The island was incredibly busy and packed with people when we got back to the center of town at around 3 o'clock. We were glad we started our day early!

You can see the Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse in the background!
Our day on Peak's Island was lovely and only further convinced me that I need to move to this beautiful state. If you're looking for a fun day trip near Portland, look no farther than Peak's! In terms of cost, it was pretty reasonable as well. The ferry ticket was $7, bike rentals were $20, and then we spent a few dollars on ice cream as well! So pack a lunch, bring some water, and put Peak's Island on your list of places to visit the next time you're in Maine.
